Mike Chasar has a Ph.D. in English and a certificate in Book Studies from the University of Iowa. His dissertation - Everyday Reading: U.S. Poetry and Popular Culture 1880-1945 - received first prize in the 2007 "Distinguished Dissertation" award competition sponsored by the Council of Graduate Schools and University Microfilms Dissertation Publishing in recognition of the best humanities dissertation completed nationally between 2005 and 2007. Chasar's essays and articles on poetry and culture have recently appeared, or are forthcoming in, American Literature and The Writer's Chronicle. Along with Heidi R. Bean and Adalaide Morris, he also guest edited a special "poetries" double issue of the Iowa Journal of Cultural Studies that appeared in 2006. He is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor of English at the University of Iowa.
