Calendar Scrapbook
At first glance, this scrapbook appears to be a fairly random collection of poems, pictures, and songs. However, its maker loosely organized the material around the months of the year, suggesting that the project was planned from the beginning and possibly used as a resource book for poems commemorating holidays.
Commercially made scrapbooks like this one were very popular consumer items and tackle the design problems of the form in a variety of ways. To accommodate the extra thickness of clipped and pasted material, covers (like the one here) are tied rather than glued together, sometimes making use of spacers, spirals, or three-ring binding designs. This scrapbook also includes a pocket inside the front cover for the neat and easy storage of clippings that have yet to be pasted down. <<Scrapbooks home
